a client-first integration playbook

What the best acquirers do differently

At launch, Winston Taylor's chairman described the new firm as "centered on a client-first approach." It's the right instinct, because that's where a combination's growth is won or lost. The acquirers who capture it treat client communication as part of the integration plan, not a marketing afterthought. Five habits stand out:

  • They pick a brand architecture early, and say it out loud. One masterbrand, endorsed brands (the acquired firm's name, "now part of" the group) or a deliberate house of brands. Any of these can work. Leaving it undecided for 18 months doesn't.
  • They tell each client segment its own story. A Dutch corporate client and a US private equity house care about different parts of the same deal. One generic announcement serves neither.
  • They arm partners before clients ask. Short, current, shareable explainers of every new capability, so a partner can send the right one in the same email as the invoice.
  • They govern centrally and publish locally. Brand, legal disclaimers and regulatory wording are locked once at the center; local teams adapt language, jurisdiction and examples within those rules.
  • They measure attention, not output. Not "we sent 40 brochures" but "which clients read the restructuring guide, for how long, and which partner should call them."
AI: the growth multiplier for acquisitive firms

Every combination multiplies the content a firm has to produce, and it does so right when partners have the least time to review it. That's why AI matters more to an acquisitive firm than to almost anyone else. Used well, it closes the gap between how fast a firm can buy capabilities and how fast it can explain them.

This is the direction Foleon's AI is built for, and it's coming soon:

  • Create at deal speed. Turn a practice group's existing material into a first draft of a capability explainer or client update, already in the right template and brand. Lawyers review and refine; they don't start from a blank page.
  • Localize without losing the voice. AI assistants in the editor adapt content for each jurisdiction and language while holding the firm's tone, so the Amsterdam version and the Chicago version sound like the same firm.
  • Stay inside the guardrails. AI works within Brand Kits, Global Content Modules and approval flows. Disclaimers stay locked, regulated wording stays approved, and nothing goes out without the right sign-off. For law firms, that's the difference between an AI pilot and an AI policy breach.
  • Know what to make next. AI Insights will read engagement across every brand and document to show which topics, formats and practices are resonating, and which clients are warming up.

The combination that wins is AI for speed and governance for trust. Law firms can't have one without the other, and a multi-brand firm least of all.

Where Foleon fits

one content platform for a multi-brand firm

A combined firm needs one content system that can carry many brands without becoming many systems. That's what Foleon is built for. Firms create with AI from a prompt, interactive, trackable documents (practice guides, pitch books, client updates, onboarding packs) that stay on-brand however many offices, languages and legacy names are involved.

The point isn't more content. It's fewer, better documents that each brand can use, that compliance trusts, and that tell partners which clients are ready for the next conversation.

The challenge

Newly acquired firms and several brands

Small updates that need a designer

Small updates that need a designer

Merged expertise invisible to AI search

Old versions in circulation

BD teams who can't use InDesign

Lawyers editing without breaking the brand

Acquired teams that still want print

Expertise that sits with a few partners

A new document needed by tomorrow

Speed without losing control

How Foleon helps

One master brand system: Brand Kits, templates and approved content blocks keep acquired firms consistent through one Brand Console, with a planned AI agent to detect and flag brand violations.

Locked Global Content Modules for firm statistics, lawyer profiles, office details and disclaimers: update once and every document syncs

Locked Global Content Modules for firm statistics, lawyer profiles, office details and disclaimers: update once and every document syncs

AEO/GEO-ready content: Foleon Docs make the merged firm's expertise accessible to search engines and AI tools through structured, machine-readable HTML, even with lead-generation forms, helping build visibility and authority for the combined brand.

Live, web-based Docs and central templates replace static PDFs and PowerPoints, keeping client links current after updates, while planned AI agents suggest content improvements based on engagement.

Agentic creation in the browser, so BD and marketing build documents without waiting for design

Personalization by practice, office or client, with fonts, colors, layouts and approved wording locked, plus Workspaces, roles and approvals

Interactive documents for clients, with PDFs for the lawyers and teams who need them on paper

Capture the firm's expertise once in a central knowledge hub, then scale it into client-ready documents for every practice, off

Describe what you need in a prompt, such as a restructuring capability brief for a manufacturing client, and AI builds it from the knowledge hub, on-brand and ready for review

AI works inside approved templates, with locked information like disclaimers, firm statistics and regulated wording protected, so faster never means riskier

A 100-day content plan for a newly combined firm

The first 100 days set how clients remember the deal. Here's how we'd sequence content for a combined firm.

Days 1 to 30, clarify. Decide the brand architecture. Then start with one high-volume asset, like the capability brochure or credentials deck, and build it into templates and Brand Kits so nobody improvises a logo lockup. Publish one interactive "what this means for you" doc per client segment, answering the questions clients are already emailing partners about.

Days 31 to 60, equip. Give every partner a library of short capability explainers for the new practices and offices, plus pitch templates they can personalize without breaking brand or compliance rules. Let AI draft and localize the core set for each jurisdiction, with lawyers reviewing rather than writing from scratch. Extend the template system to each practice area and acquired firm, and keep print-ready PDFs for the teams that still want paper.

Days 61 to 100, measure. Connect reader data to the CRM. Which clients opened the Dutch M&A guide? Which sections of last month's proposal did the client actually read? Who spent ten minutes on the private wealth explainer? Hand those signals to the right partner, and the cross-selling story starts writing itself.

The firms that win will be the ones clients understand

Talk to foleon

The next wave of legal consolidation won't be decided by who signs the most deals. It'll be decided by who turns those deals into a story clients can follow and act on. Lawyers already know how to integrate balance sheets, conflicts systems and partner agreements. The firms that pull ahead will also integrate the client experience: a unified, client-first voice across the whole platform, many credible brands, and a clear signal of who's ready to buy what.

Acquisition buys you the capability. Content is how clients find out you have it. And with AI doing the heavy lifting inside a governed platform, that content can finally move as fast as the deals do.
